For the Physical computing studio course at IUAV University of Venice, Luca De Rosso and I are working on small singing creatures for children: MUBUs (Musical Buddies).
…from the course blog:
“MUBUs are said to be friendly to those children who want to play with them but strangely these creatures live in the night while they sleep during the day; that’s why children have to wake them up any time they want to play.
When a MUBU is woken up it has to be fed, otherwise it will start making a lot of noise. Each time the MUBU is well fed it will sing sweetly. For its friends this means that there is something to eat, so they will wake up too to sing together.
When the day is over and the night comes, all the MUBUs are awake, ready to sing if someone is passing, remembering all the food they had from children. Whenever they feel a presence they repeat the songs sang during the day…“
More news on the project coming soon
